FROM RIO TO HAVANA is an exclusive concert starring two of the most exciting performers in todays classical music scene, the Brazilian-Cuban soprano Angelica de la Riva and the Cuban
pianist and conductor Orlando Alonso. Ms. de la Riva, praised for a dazzling presence, a warm,
agile and powerful voice, and the refinement and demeanor of a great singer, was last years re-
cipient of the prestigious Carlos Gomes Cultural Merit Award, honoring her work in promoting
Brazilian classical music around the world. Her passion for the Brazilian masters and the Iberian American art song notwithstanding, and her skilled interpretations and versatility in both chamber music and operatic and symphonic repertoire has brought Ms. de la Riva to perform with major orchestras including Prague Symphony and Orchestra of St. Luke’s at concert halls around the world, including Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in New York. Also a former Brazilian rowing champion, Ms. de la Riva was recently recruited by the Brazilian National coach to join her team and train for a spot at Rio 2016 Olympics.
