Pianist Horacio Gutierrez finds new challenges in Chopin concerto

Horacio Gutierrez, a popular pianist with orchestras and audiences alike, returns to the Sooner State this week for his sixth appearance with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic. He’ll be the soloist in Frederic Chopin’s “Concerto No. 1 in E Minor,”

“Like Mozart, Chopin was after an expression as pure and free of artifice as possible,” Gutierrez explained. “In that, they have a lot in common. Chopin had a much wider pianistic language but he also strove for straightforward simplicity and beauty.” continue reading–>

Horacio Gutiérrez Masterclasses and Concerts in Oxford

piano-festivalHoracio Gutiérrez will offer masterclasses at the Oxford Philomusica Piano Festival this summer.

This celebration of the piano, stretched over a week at the end of July/beginning of August, combines a programme of concerts in some of the most beautiful and historic buildings in Oxford – including Sir Christopher Wren’s Sheldonian Theatre, the ceremonial hall of the University – with an intensive daily programme of lectures and masterclasses.

As a residential course, held in the idyllic setting of St Hilda’s College, it provides full-board accommodation to participants and observers, as well as full access to all Festival events and practising facilities. Masterclasses take place at the Jacqueline du Pre Music Building, a state-of-the-art auditorium within the grounds of St Hilda’s College. Full details of the Festival and how to apply can be found here.
